Dropbox

I recently got introduced to Drop Box by a friend of mine. DropBox allows users to access big files easily wherever they are. You can have your files in your computer, online or in any other computer you use. It is pretty sweet. It has worked great for me since my flash drive is almost full and my pictures are huge.
It might be too close to the end of the semester but it might be handy for in the future. The link is http://www.dropbox.com/

TinyVices

Jon wanted me to post this website for you all. It is ran by the artist Tim Barber and has a lot of information. He posts daily about exhibits, artists, etc. There is also a portfolio section of current working artists and a various photographs section. He accepts submissions for the various section and if chosen some of the various collections have been exhibited and printed in book form.

It is a great website to browse because most of the artists are just starting to get recognition. They are young and current.

Photoshop?

I have a question about this project, and partly about the class in general. How much photoshop are we allowed to use? Obviously color correction and cropping and whatnot, but can we go in and add elements?

Richard Learoyd

I really like Richard Learoyd's photography. His process is basically a large camera obscura. He has a sitting room and a development room next to one another with a lens built into the wall. He exposes light sensitive paper to make a one of a kind ilfachrome print. The end result is a large, detailed photograph, usually about 4 to 6 feet. Look him up.

www.bryanmeltz.com

I've been checking out her photography as of lately, and she's got some great editorial shots that i just love and thought I'd share her with all of you.

Kendrik Kerstens

This photographer does a lovely job with portraiture. It is a good reminder to think about your light source (both color temperature and direction) when making photographs.

This is were I used to take my film for developing. They were little "houses" in grocery store parking lots. I think there might be something like in on That 70s Show.

Header?

I don't remember what the dimensions were supposed to be for the header. But I thought Lincoln sans beard would be the perfect representative for the blog.

White Balance

Since we are talking about color temperature and color casts in class, here is a quick tutorial on properly using the white balance settings in your digital camera.

Turn Slides in by Monday

We will review them Thrusday. See Fyi below.

Advice from Alec Soth.

Here are a few pieces of advice for young photographers from Alec Soth.

"What advice would you give young photographers?
1) Never think photography is easy. It's like poetry in that it's easy enough to make a few rhymes, but that's not a good poem.
2) Study photography, see what people have achieved, but learn from it, don't try photographically to be one of those people
3) Photograph things you really care about, things that really interest you, not things you feel you ought to do.
4) Photograph them in the way you feel is right, not they way you think you ought to
5) Be open to criticism, it can be really helpful, but stick to you core values
6) Study and theory is useful but you learn most by doing. Take photographs, lots of them, be depressed by them, take more, hone your skills and get out there in the world and interact."

Hi folks,
Out of curiosity I called Timeless Photo and Idaho Camera on Orchard today to see what their turnaround times are for slide developing:
Idaho Camera said they develop slides on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, meaning if you drop them off on Monday they will be ready for pickup on Wednesday, etc.
Timeless Photo said they send slides out to be developed off site and if you drop them off on Monday they will probably be ready by Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.

Trey McIntyre Project

I was asked to share this info with you:

and that our only show in Boise this spring will be February 13, 2010.

I have heard it is pretty amazing.

Google mapping

This is photo, bike and map related.

Sunny Sunday

Thanks for getting the blog rolling Eli. I just heard the weather report and it looks like Sunday will still be partly sunny. It should be a good day to do the slide exercise. Not to mention other exercise.
